Anja Roller Skates ... The Roller Skates of Dreams

Outdoing is a human thing. We can be best of friends but the urge to outwit, outlast or outshine the other is always there. Take the skating rink for instance. If you’ve been there, you would notice that everyone wears the same skating shoes because they have to rent it from the rink operator. Duh!

Now, imagine a rebellious diva comes over and wants to skate for pleasure. She could have rented the entire rink for a day and use it for herself and her entourage. Somehow, feeling tired of skating with the same people, she choose not to.

So, she decided not to chase those poor mortals away. Still, being a diva, she needs something that will set her apart from the rest: Coiffed hair? Checked; David Bowie-inspired white wide-legged haute couture Jean-Paul Gaultier jumpsuit? Checked; Bodyguards: Obviously checked. Fine, all is in place yet she has to succumb to the rules of the rink: Rent the skates from us!

So, here’s where the drama gets haute-er: In her absolutely diva style (cue Mariah Carey’s “champagne with straw” or Jennifer Lopez’s “coffee stirred anti-clockwise” demands), she unveils her extraordinary Anja high-heeled pumps roller skate from Saint Laurent Paris!

An already talk of the fashion town footwear, the avant-garde Anja roller skates are certainly to die for – especially for the self-proclaimed roller skating rink goddesses.

Had Vaccarello designed it for Saint Laurent back in the early Noughties (c. 2000s), I bet Jessica Simpson and her girls Christina Applegate, Christina Milian, Eva Longoria and Maria Menounos would have worn them and glide to her post-divorce anthem “Public Affair” in the song’s music video.

Made from a juxtaposition of precious hides, patent leather and drenched in all that glitters, these roller skates are the absolute epitome of glam rock and pop culture.

The stiletto heels are crafted from snakeskin and embellished with prowling feline appliqué in high gloss red patent leather while three other pumps feature pop art graphic, polka dots and glam rock snakeskin drenched in rhinestones and metallic accents.

Though the heels are considered high enough, to mount it on the skates, the heels’ height is extended with metal extension for ample balance. Therefore, you will appear taller while skating in it. Nevertheless, if you are afraid of height, just stick to the normal roller skates, please.

While the suggested retail price for Malaysia is RM8560 a pair, the Anja roller skates are not sold in stores. Nevertheless, if you feel you have to own it no matter what, why don’t you just drop in the nearest Saint Laurent Paris store and inquire?
