An Analysis of a Chemistry ... Prada FW2015-16 Menswear Collection

A relationship between a man and a woman is something universal and one does not need to be a rocket scientist to comprehend it.

From Adam and Eve to Romeo and Juliet, human relationship between the two genders is often shrouded in mystery.

Moreover, that ongoing mystery has become the chosen subject or the crux of Miuccia Prada’s menswear collection for the upcoming fall/winter 2015 season.

Presented to a coterie of fashion editors, VIP guests and buyers in Milan in a space that projects the illusion of an infinite palace, the collection can be touted as the result of Prada’s analysis of the relationship between men and women.

Easy silhouette is the key feature of the collection. The lines are non-linear and asymmetrical in approach with the colour black dominating the working palette. Rather than a display of strong lines with definite masculine accents, the collection seems to offer a sense of relaxation for men.

The pieces are rather soft in terms of shapes and lines, especially on the shoulders, hence blurring the gender difference between men and women. In a way, whatever that he wears can be worn by her as well.

Nylon coats in different he length are shaded in dark hues and reigned by double breasted style. The outerwear is layered over basic pieces such as shirts with one that sporting above the knee hem and worn with a matching belt and straight trousers.

Double layered short-sleeved sweater worn atop grey button-down shirt adds a hint of preppy coolness into the collection.

And for those who are seeking for cutting-edge yet dapper pieces to be added into the fall/winter collection, look forward to the smart tailored pieces in nylon, imbued in hints of 1950s and 1960s tailoring style.

Also presented at the show was a selection of womenswear such as dresses with plunging necklines and peppered with bows, either on the shoulders or across the décolletage; double-breasted trench coat with multiple ribbon details on the shoulders; a preppy shirt-and-skirt combination worn with a long coat and a tartan trench coat paired with knee-high patent leather boots.

Prada FW2015 menswear collection will be available at all Prada stores and select multi-brand retailers by the third quarter of the year.
