Halston Heritage Opens in Kuala Lumpur

They used to say that the 70s revolved on three essential keys – Studio 54, roller skates and Halston. The name Roy Halston Frowick may not ring the bell among today’s generation of fashionistas.

But to those who used to live in the era where formidable pop culture elements such as the Motown music, Sonny & Cher, and disco ruled the universe, Halston literally meant fashion.

Born on April 23, 1932, Roy Halston Frowick defined the fashion scene of the 70s with his feminine take of women’s fashion – the fluid, slender silhouettes that flatter the body; plunging yet decent-looking v-necklines; and soft drapes. “Fashion starts with fashionable people,” was one of his memorable quotes and his groundbreaking attempt creating simple, easy and elegant American wardrobe elevated Halston to a greater level as America’s high luxury fashion label.

Throughout his career, his creations were favoured by top-notch celebrities and glitterati such as Bianca Jagger, Sophia Loren, Liza Minnelli and the late Farrah Fawcett – fashion icons who, alongside Halston himself, were the permanent fixture of the iconic Studio 54 in New York.

During one of his fashion shows in New York, then model cum actress Anjelica Huston ̶ Halston’s muse ̶ captured the attention of the photographers and fashion crowds alike by striking a memorable pose at the end of the runway – a fashionable moment that was forever sealed in the history of American fashion industry.

In countries where the brand is not literally present, it was also common to see copies of his flattering designs looming large in fashion spread and the movies.

Though the designer ceased walking the earth 24 years ago, his legacy remains at large with the birth of Halston Heritage.

Like the original namesake brand, Halston Heritage is highly favoured by modern day style arbiters such as Brazilian bombshell supermodel Gisele Bündchen, pop performer Lady Gaga, actress Kerry Washington and Oscar winner Halle Berry just to name a few.

This summer, Malaysian fans of the approachable American luxury brand will be thrilled as the brand has officially opened its first store in the country ― second in Asia ― at the swanky Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. Located at the Third Floor of the mall, the store occupies 1200 square meter space housing complete Halston Heritage ready-to-wear and accessories collection.

“Malaysia marks the second country in Asia to open a Halston Heritage store, following our recent opening in Indonesia on May 3rd,” said Ben Malka, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Halston. “Our foray into this market is in line with the company’s strategy to expand our global presence and build a broader retail network in the Asian region.”

Malka added, “We are excited to enter the Malaysian shore and introduce this iconic brand to local consumers, offering them an elevated women’s collection of ready-to-wear, dresses, handbags and small leather goods that reflect the signature Halston aesthetic.”

Glamour abounds as you make your way into the wonderland of everything Halston. The LED-lit doorway serves as an informal invitation to step into the store. Inside, the interior decoration is imbued with minimalist feel and paired with earthy tone palette and wooden fixtures.

An array of exciting accessories ranging from handbags to exquisite evening clutches are neatly displayed on racks while pendant lights with pleated fabric shades provide soft and welcoming ambiance to the store. Since late Halston loved white orchids so much, a couple of potted white orchid plants are placed in the store as part of the decor.

If you’re planning to visit the store, here’s a sneak peek to the pre-fall 2014 collection, as well as the fall/winter 2014-15 collection: Bianca Jagger serves as the muse for the pre-fall with a colour palette mix of blue, white, grey and black; artful nipping and draping; ombrè with hints of glossy surface.

Look forward to stocking absolute must-have pieces of the season such as luxurious fur gilet, dresses with nipped front and twisted neckline, sequin-drench dresses and buttery soft leather coat.

As for the main fall/winter collection, the approach is more ground breaking with colour palette ranging from subtle greys to neutral browns and animating blues.

Daytime pieces are imbued with artistic drapes and styling. Puffer coat with standing collar looks like an impeccably-styled billowed scarf while texture-like patterns adorn a relaxed long-sleeved tunic with asymmetrical hem.

Like the pre-fall collection, furs too are omnipresent in the collection, being an essential element of every fall/winter dressing and styling.

As evening approaches, slip into glamorous array of dresses, either a sequined sweetheart neckline long dress with asymmetrical slit or channel the indomitable spirit of Talitha Getty style with a demure matte-surfaced black caftan with plunging V-neckline at the back and back straps accented with square gold hardware – one of Halston’s celebrated looks of all time.

Halston Heritage pre-fall 2014 collection is available now Halston Heritage store.
