Time is Music ... Gucci GRAMMY® Special Edition Interlocking Watch

Music is an indelible art form that is present in every culture. From folk to contemporary, acoustics to harmonies, music is a universal language that unites people around the world.

Since 1957, the Recording Academy has been celebrating achievements and milestones in the music industry through the globally renowned GRAMMY Awards.

From the perspective of a layman, the GRAMMY Awards may be easily passed of as just any other award shows – celebrities bedecked in couture confections and glittering baubles on the red carpet; live performances; and scripted antics or stunts pulled by both presenters and the host of the show.

Nevertheless, in the eyes of the musician, GRAMMY Awards is not just about the fanfare, spotlights and the after-parties. It is about celebrating a new milestone of their expansive career and their constant strives to achieve musical excellence and global success. Of course, to bring home the iconic gramophone-shaped statuette (hence the name GRAMMY) would always be on top of most recording artists’ to-have list.

Recently, Gucci and the Recording Academy celebrated the fourth year of its collaboration (that goes back to 2010) with the launch of Gucci GRAMMY® Special Edition Interlocking watch with a dial made of GRAMMIUM®, the very same material used to forge the iconic trophy statuette in the shape of a gramophone — the GRAMMY Award®.

A variant of the Interlocking collection, the Gucci GRAMMY® Special Edition Interlocking watch features a sleek and modern take on the House’s GG interlocking motif.

Available in two sizes (42mm and37mm), the watch comes with a black polished and brushed PVD case, a snapped case back with GRAMMY Awards® logo and a yellow sun-brushed dial made with GRAMMIUM.

The lengthy process of creating a GRAMMY Award is derived from a tradition that is hundreds of years old. The statuette is cast out of GRAMMIUM — a custom alloy, developed by John Billings, the craftsman who creates, by hand, the lustrous gold gramophone statue that is presented to GRAMMY recipients.

In conjunction with the launch celebration, Gucci Timepieces & Jewelry and The Recording Academy®, together with The GRAMMY Museum® hosted singer Janelle Monáe for a separate exclusive musical event at the Museum’s Clive Davis Theatre.

This special performance celebrated the launch of the new Gucci GRAMMY® Interlocking watch whose dial is made of GRAMMIUM®, the very same material used to forge the iconic GRAMMY Award® statuette.

Monáe, an emerging style icon famous for her monotonous look was looking stunning in white short-sleeved shirt and pants with suspenders, a black-white striped jacket and leather shin boots.

A new Gucci GRAMMY timepiece featuring a special case-back inscription was also presented to the singer during the occasion.

In the tradition of “An Evening With”, the GRAMMY Museum’s flagship program series, led by The GRAMMY Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli, guests were treated to an intimate interview with Janelle Monáe followed by a live performance of songs including Q.U.E.E.N., Electric Lady and Tightrope – all taken from her previous and current albums.

The Gucci GRAMMY® Special Edition Interlocking watch is available now at Gucci stores and authorised Gucci Timepieces and Jewellery retailers.
