La Vie des Femmes ... Louis Vuitton Resort 2014 Collection

Before the review starts, good news for Louis Vuitton fans:  The brand is expanding its Starhill Gallery flagship store and it will be a massive LV paradise ever built in Kuala Lumpur.

When it will open, what to expect in store, or could it be another maison in Southeast Asia after Marina Bay Sands? Please don’t ask and just keep our fingers crossed.

For the Resort collection, the maison’s ready-to-wear offering has departed from the archetypal summery, getaway-in-mind pieces that most socialites would favour (think for-sunbathing-purpose maillots and big, floppy wide-brimmed hats) with practical pieces that are tailored around the sophisticated life of urban women.

Furthermore, the Resort collection too represents various facets of today’s contemporary womanhood: a CEO who runs a successful start-up somewhere in the Silicon Valley to an avid art collector cum permanent social circuit fixture; an Aspen party girl (the sheen fur jacket says it all) to a free-spirited Bohemian; and not to forget, successors to prominent tastemakers such as Lee Radziwill.

Textured materials such as tweed with frayed hems lend some edginess while sheen surfaces inject an air of ultimate luxury. Being a Resort collection by nature, the silhouettes are rather relaxed and not constricting to the body, hence allowing more freedom of movement.

The long coats – either printed or in plain colour – seem slouchy and could easily be mistaken as sleeping robe, while the presence of classic black and white stripes in the collection is an obvious allusion to the iconic French women style. A hint of Bohemian chic is present in the forms of monotonous printed tunic dress, long printed dress in various shades of blue and a sky blue maxi dress.

In the accessories department, buttery soft leather bags splashed in summery colours such as coral and mint, as well as in neutral shade of brown perfectly complement the looks. Studded strappy heeled clogs in various permutations of colours and materials as well as flat sandals are set to redefine the Resort trend in 2014.

Louis Vuitton Resort 2014 collection will be available at select Louis Vuitton stores worldwide by the fourth quarter of the year onwards.
