Candy Coloured Working Girl ... Versace Resort 2014 Collection

As a working girl, have you ever been in either one of these situations:

You had applied for a long year-end leave and booked a millionaire-worthy New Year ushering holiday package in Auckland and out of the blue, your boss decided to freeze all leaves for something big and simmering (not for the boss but the company)?

Another situation: It’s November and you’ve decided to make a prompt career change because you tripped on your office’s love interest affair.

Though the recruitment ad may sound promising when you first glanced at it (“fun-packed working ambiance with dynamic working team”), you are immediately taken aback when you start your first day.

The office is bleak and sullen; fellow staffers look as if they had just walked out of the Walking Dead filming set; and the one before you left with a pile of backlogs for you to complete, or risk missing that socialite-studded New Year’s Eve bash at the Mandarin Oriental.

In light of these two situations, what would you do? a) Leave for a greener pasture or b) take things positively and revamp the way you dress. Well, as much as I prefer to do the former, I guess the latter could give me better respite.

So why don’t you walk with your head up high and splash yourself in candy colours to work as the year end approaches? Perhaps, that is the sort of idea that Donatella Versace wishes to table out via her Resort 2014 collection.

A collection that is pretty much demure from its previous sexually-charged spring/summer 2013 collection, Versace has coupled as many tailored pieces one could think of with splashes of delicious bon-bon colours.

Just like sugar and spice, and everything nice, the immediate result is an array of office-friendly confections for the wardrobe – certainly a great deliverance from the old and boring office outfits for fashion forward office girls.

Exquisite pairings such as double breasted long-sleeved and collared top with matching above-the-knee skirt, long-sleeved button-front top with front-slit skirt and body-conscious dresses are certainly worth dying for.

That said, meeting room affairs that are usually festooned with dull and sombre colours – not to forget those same old, same old pinstripes - now could be spiced up with douses of bright and exciting colours/

Nevertheless, being Versace means no sexy holds being barred – albeit slightly toned down. Asymmetrical cut-out element made its prominent appearance on bathing suits and dresses, while soft and barely visible creases and pleats enhance the feminine allure of the wearer.

For those who have been working hard on that fabulous abs throughout summer, flaunt that hard earned chisels with a selection of navel baring tops paired with long and slender skirts, or a sleek black ribbed cropped top paired with a front-slit white skirt.

To complete the resort-to-work look is a selection of handbags in bright confection colours, quilted and emblazoned with 3D embossing of the iconic Medusa head, strappy high-heeled sandals in contrasting but tasty colours –think orange and white – and simple yet elegant long clutches, just to list a few.

Versace Resort 2014 collection will be available at Versace stores, mixed-brand and selected department stores from November onwards.
