Rihanna Unveils Chic Collaboration With River Island
Celebrities and fashion – a union that cannot be questioned,
at all, because generally everybody
knows celebrities do have the power to make or break trends.
And when I thought celebrity fashion collaborations are about to reach its slow death status (post Dorothy Perkins’ Kardashian Kollection and Jennifer Lopez’s long-term relationship with Kohl’s, I had heard none), Rihanna had proven me wrong.
The Bajan singer, whose eclectic and well-documented sense of fashion is as sensational as her currently chart-breaking album “Unapologetic” and single "Diamonds", as well as her famously unapologetic, profanity-laced tweets recently collaborated with UK’s high street brand River Island on her debut fashion collection.
Consisting of 120 pieces altogether, the collection, which was recently debuted during the London Fashion Week, was co-designed by designer Adam Selman and reflects Rihanna’s personal yet imitable style.
Think Caribbean summery hues, shorter-than-thou hems, sexy silhouettes and modern feminine nuances. Not to forget, the inevitable midriff-baring as well.
The collection includes an array of satin dresses, jersey skirts and dresses with thigh-high splits, denim, tensile twin parkas, crop tops, t-shirts, fine gauge knits, jumpsuits, varsity jackets, “barely there” sandals, ankle boots, rucksacks and snap back caps.
Her signature ‘shirt tied around the waist’ is omnipresent in the collection, from jumpsuits to knee-length skirts. As for the working palette, monochrome, navy and beige with high lights of neon make up the spring collection, while the Summer collection consists of monochrome, red, floral prints, tie dye and stripes.
Also included in the collection is the Limited Edition pieces (retailed as Limited Edition Collection) which is made of buttery soft leather baseball jacket, fine gauge maxi knit dresses and military-inspired over the knee boots, with only 200 pieces are made for each piece.
The collection will be available at all River Island stores around the world as well as in its online stores by 5th March (spring) and May (summer) will be retailed from £18.00 onwards, while in Japan and the United States, Rihanna for River Island will be exclusively available at Opening Ceremony.
