Heaven-Sent Eye Candies ... Victoria's Secret 2011 Fashion Show
Last November, heaven seemed empty for a
while, as the ever glamorous angels descended to earth and walked the venerated and pompous
runway of Victoria’s
Secret.
The glam angels troupe, consisting of today’s hottest name in the
fashion runway world — Chanel Iman, Candice Swanpoel, Adriana Lima, Lily
Aldridge, Doutzen Kroes, Lindsay Ellingson, Miranda Kerr, Rosie Huntington and Alessandra
Ambrosio, just to list a few — conquered the runway and took the spectators’
breath away with lusty Victoria Secret’s confections, further accented with
bravura costumes and lots of high-end blings.
Broadcasted live via CBS, the show was
divided into several themes, all brimming with sensuality, fantasy and splendour. Aside from the archetypal laces and liberal use of chiffons, all crafted into
delicious sensual and wearable bonbons, this year’s show too, directed by Hamish Hamilton — the same director who directed Madonna’s bestselling
“Drowned World” tour — paid homage to the superheroes, and perhaps to the 60s animated
sitcom series The Jetsons as well.
Nuances of Latin spiciness appeared in
Candice Swanpoel’s richly embroidered outfit and the heavily bejewelled carnaval
fan worn by Alessandra Ambrosio. Also debuting for the first time on Victoria’s
Secret runway is the Fantasy Treasure bra, which spots 3,400 precious gems with
total carat weight of 279ct. Well, unless a million dollar is just a drop in
your bucket, then be prepared to fork out $2,500,000.00 for this richly
embellished and one-of-a-kind push up bra! The bra was modelled by Miranda Kerr.
Taking the runway that night, alongside the
splendid display of luxurious lingerie and fanfare were top-notch celebrities
such as Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5 and Kanye West. Minaj dazzled the crowd with her
vocal prowess, as well as her bright orange
bustier paired with tropical print skirt, while West was later joined by rapper
and Mr. Beyonce, Jay-Z, belting out chart-topping hits amidst the catwalking
Victoria Secret’s angels.
Aside from the ones on stage, trendsetting celebrities
such as Nicky Hilton, Alexander Wang, Carine Roitfeld, Debbie Harry of Blondie, Stephen Dorff (Immortals)
and Beyonce were spotted snapping the front row seats. Lending a huge support
to the Australian angel and supermodel Miranda Kerr that evening was none other
sweetheart Orlando Bloom, who looked stunning in all-black casual ensemble.
Some of the pieces displayed on the runway,
which are part of the Holiday 2011 collection, are available now at Victoria’s Secret stores
and victoriassecret.com, with prices starting from $68.00 onwards.
