Seduced by La Putri

Diamonds are always a girl’s best friend. Ditto other precious and semi-precious jewels such as sapphires, rubies, emeralds, jets, tourmaline and opal. For long, women and jewels are connected to each other in a very emotional way.

For instance, whenever you see the ring on your finger or a necklace around your neck, immediately it will remind you of maybe one or many special occasions occurred in your life such as engagement, marriage, or perhaps your 30th wedding anniversary.

What’s more, jewelleries too are often handed down from one generation to another as inheritance since their value could reach up to 10 times of its original price. Of course, lucky women who inherited the jewels will truly appreciate the high sentimental value that they possessed.

Speaking of lucky, I was lucky enough to be invited by KL’s renowned jeweller La Putri to join the other lucky ladies and the press members to witness the launch of La Putri’s flagship store at the Pavilion KL – KL’s axis of style.

For those who are unfamiliar with La Putri, here’s a gist of the brand’s history: Founded in 1973 by Madam Wang Ming Chin, a style maven with a fine taste, La Putri is synonymous with exquisite high quality jewellery designs and attentive personal service for the last 37 years.

Not only it had won the hearts of local well-heeled fashionistas, but the charm of their fine creations has also captured the attention of chic jewellery enthusiasts in the next-door Lion City, thus prompting the brand to tap into Singapore’s dynamic market with a boutique at the Mandarin Shopping Gallery.

Back to where we left. The new boutique, which is located next to Diane von Furstenberg’s Kuala Lumpur flagship, carries both one-off ready-to-wear and couture pieces. The reason being one-off is because some of the pieces that are sold at La Putri boutique are made only once, despite being ready-to-wear.

The reason being is to keep the items’ exclusivity and the brand’s long-standing status as an exclusive jeweller. In addition to the brand’s own creations, La Putri is also the only jeweller in Southeast Asia to carry the exclusive jewellery collections by renowned Russian jeweller Agapoff.

If you walk into the boutique, you may find the ambiance as more relaxing and certainly customer friendly, contrasting to the ambiance of the other high street jewellery stores that lined around the perimeters of lush Couture Pavilion row on both second and third floors.

That is because, the boutique’s interior design, which amalgamates traditional elements —clear lacquered wooden features and sleek wooden furnishing — with contemporary architectural approach is designed to mimic the original ambience of La Putri’s first store at the Ampang Park shopping Mall. And if you’re lucky enough, you can also see a craftsman working his craft inside his workshop through the glass window.

Done with the press tour of the store, we gathered in front of the boutique and we were treated to a selection of canapés and finger-sized sweet treats from Café Stelle. As I mingled around with the press members and ladies who lunch, Ms. Goh Ying Li of La Putri delivered her welcome speech, followed by singer Maureen Santiago warming up the event with a song taken from her latest album. Decked in La Putri baubles, Maureen’s vocal prowess was absolutely amazing, especially when hitting on the high notes.

Later, three models, dressed in Max Mara’s AW2010-11 frocks, sashayed with the latest La Putri creations adorning their svelte bodies. Like tasty confections (sans the edibleness), the glints of the divine gems being flawlessly set on necklaces, rings and bracelets were alluring, as if they were extending us an open invitation to take them home.

Later, Maureen took the floor once again and belted out a heart-warming rendition of Jennifer Hudson’s song “And I am Telling You I’m not Going” (taken from her Oscar-winning silver screen debut Dreamgirls) to conclude the beautiful afternoon.

So, if you wish to treat yourself or your loved ones to La Putri’s lavish offering for Christmas, make your way today to La Putri’s flagship boutique at Couture Pavilion.
