Dior Presents Haute Couture Show in Dubai

In his lifetime, one of Monsieur Dior’s favourite places was the Cirque D’Hiver or the Winter Circus. 

Located within Paris’ 11^th Arrondisement, the circus has been a prominent venue in the romantic City of Lights and Love, hosting plethora of circuses and other prolific events such as fashion shows and dressage.

In the 1950s, renowned modern photography legend the late Richard Avedon captured an arresting image of supermodel Dorothy Virginia Margaret Juba or famously known as Dovima, dressed in a Dior evening dress with the circus elephants. The image, aptly christened as “Dovima" with Elephants” would later became one of the most iconic and memorable fashion shots ever captured by Avedon.

Fast forward to 2019, Dior’s love for circus is once again relived as Dior’s Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri presented the maison’s haute couture confections recently in Dubai. 

Held in a tent, lavished with colourful sweet confections and fresh flowers, Middle East’s esteemed fashionistas and celebrities — known for their love of haute couture — gathered to witness the collection parade. Featuring 15 new exquisite pieces designed for the event, Chiuri employed a broad variety of images to compose the “parade”.

Featuring exceptional silhouettes, the intricate pieces were dazzled and crafted with tinges of gold, reds and subtle shades of green and lilac – symbolising the excellence of Dior Atelier’s savoir-faire. 

The pants are light and full with narrowed ankles that can become jumpsuits, while the shorts are paired with sheer white shirts accented with ruffs and ribbons. Moreover, leather corsets and the geometric white clown outfit were reinterpreted through materials, embroidery and proportions.

Bar Jacket, Dior’s most iconic masterpiece, is flamboyantly reincarnated as a tamer’s jacket with long, fitted redingnotes and hand-embroidered frogging. Also capturing the attention of the guests were the pleated skirts that shimmers like dazzling rainbow that accentuate the celestial magic of the circus.
