Lonchamp debuts capsule collection with Clo'e Floirat

This season, die-hard fans of Longchamp’s iconic Le Pliage bags will have one good reason to drop in the stores: The revered Parisian fashion house has roped in renowned cartoonist and art critic Clo’e Floirat for a one-off collection of bags, small leather goods and accessories.

For the uninitiated, Clo’e Floirat is no stranger to the contemporary global art scene. Une Parisienne by birth yet a citizen of the world at present, Clo’e received her art training in New York, Rheims in Belgium and Endhoven in the Netherlands. 

Post-studies, she packed her bags off the Berlin and worked with architects specialising in art spaces for five years. Within the span of her illustrious career, Floirat has worked with many great names in the world of art such as Canadian singer/songwriter Rufus Wainwright and Robert Wilson, as well as other contemporary artists such as Anish Kapoor, Daniel Buren, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov at the Monumenta - Grand Palais in Paris since 2011. 

Art studies aside, Floirat also holds a Master in Critical Writing in Art from The Royal College of Art in London and her works – a signature combination of drawing and writing with a critical orientation, which she called “drawing crit’writing” have been featured in prestigious art publications such as Frieze, Intramuros, L’Officiel Art and The World of Interiors.

For this significant collaboration, Longchamp has given Floirat a carte blanche. Taking humour as the theme of her capsule collection, Floirat imagined Le Pliage, already an established icon, in a story that unfolds in three formats. Dogs are the leitmotif or the lead characters of the collection. 

In one design, she illustrated pack of dogs in bright, bold colours walking their owners on nylon canvas’ tone-on-tone navy print flap with red signature details – a satirical take on the age-old adage “Are you walking the dogs or the dogs walking you?”

Floirat also made a cute red dachshund the star of the collection by featuring it on two small leather goods, a small silk scarf and an umbrella where the hound is shown prancing all over the packaging and paper bags. 

So, if you’re looking for a perfect Christmas present to be given to a true-blue canine lover – particularly those with great fondness of Clifford, the Big Red Dog – then this is the absolute answer!

The Longchamp x Clo’e Foirat collection is now available at all Longchamp stores around the world.
