#ChristmasWishes: Dionysus Fine Jewellery Collection by Gucci
When we
think of Greece, the first two things that would come to mind are a) the Olympics and
b) Democracy.
For ardent foodies, Greece is home to delightful delicacies such as Dolma (sticky rice wrapped in grape leaves), Moussaka (an eggplant- or potato-based dish that’s akin to gratin) and the heady Ouzo (anise or cinnamon-flavoured Greek liquor).
Yet, the most treasured gift of Greece to the world, besides democracy and the Olympics, is certainly the Greek mythology. Throughout the millenniums, Greek mythology has been celebrated and interpreted in many artistic forms. In fashion, designers would look to the goddesses Aphrodite or Athena ― sometimes, the villainous snake-haired Medusa ― as muses for their collections.
This Christmas, why don’t you thrill the hearts of your loved ones who are an enthusiastic fan of the Greek myths and legend with these precious Dionysus fine jewellery collection from Gucci?

Who is
Dionysus?
In Greek mythology,
Dionysus is the god of wines, feasts, fertility and religious ecstasy. The Romans called him Bacchus. Like
Hercules, Dionysus was a by-product of Zeus’ infamous illicit affair with a
mortal woman named Semele. After seeing Zeus in his true form, Semele perished
and Zeus immediately saved the unborn Dionysus by sewing his foetus into his
thigh.
What does
the tiger has to do with Dionysus?
Is the
Dionysus motif limited to Gucci fine jewellery only?
As one of
Gucci’s highly recognised motifs, Gucci’s current Creative Director Alessandro
Michele has expanded its use into other collection of accessories as well such
as the iconic Jackie bag.
How many
items are there within the Dionysus fine jewellery collection?
There are
four items within this stunning collection – a pair of earrings with
drop-shaped silhouette, a necklace and two cuff bracelets.
The
earrings are made in 18kt yellow gold and accented with 0.2ct diamonds. It is
further lavished with green enamel and tsavorite – a green-coloured precious
stone originated from Africa – weighing 1.45ct.
As for the necklace, the length
is 70cm, made from 18kt yellow gold and embellished with green enamel and
0.16ct tsavorite.
The cuffs
are classic. How do I wear them?
Indeed,
thanks to the interlocking tiger heads! Like the rest of the items, the tiger
heads are made from 18kt yellow gold while its eyes are of 0.18ct tsavorite.
The
inner edge of the cuffs are decorated with green enamel while the open
silhouette of the cuffs (perhaps alluding to the ancient Greece, Roman and Egyptian jewellery style where golden cuffs were worn by royalties and noble women) makes it easier for you to combine them with other
styles.
Here’s an idea: Why don’t you pair the slimmer one with a matching
Dionysus watch for a layered look? Or maybe, wear them with one shoulder dresses as an allusion of Cleopatra's decadent style.
I’m looking
for jewelleries that I can pass down to my daughters and granddaughters in the
future. Do you think the Dionysus is a perfect choice?
Absolutely!
Like other Gucci products such as the notable bamboo-handled bags and the Gucci
Flora silks, Gucci fine jewellery has timeless appeal and made to last.
Every part
of it is made with precision and care by master craftsmen. In Dionysus’ case,
the vintage silhouette came from Alessandro Michele’s (Gucci current Creative
Director) fondness for vintage aesthetics and deep knowledge of the maison.
Therefore, by the time we entered a new
millennium, say year 3000, the appeal and the sensuality of Dionysus will
remain ideal and relevant, even to the newest generation.
Where can I
find them?
