Montblanc Launches Meisterstück Selection Sfumato Collection
Italian art and science maestro Leonardo da Vinci would be absolutely contented to know that one of his inventions – the Sfumato technique – is now being put on a good use.
Recently, Montblanc, a well-known purveyor of luxury lifestyle goods unveiled the new Meisterstück Selection Sfumato, a collection of a masterfully painted leather goods replete with contemporary appeal in London
Held at 3 Olaf Street at the West End quarter, the global launch of the one-of-a-kind pieces was attended by award-winning actor and the current brand ambassador of Montblanc Hugh Jackman.
The actor who looked dashing in a well-tailored suit joined Montblanc CEO Jérôme Lambert and a host of notable guests at the global launch of the collection.
An ingenious painting technique devised to produce unnoticeable transitions between colours and tones using fine shading and delicate graduation between colours, the Sfumato approach imparts elegant patina effect mirroring the luxurious qualities of leather. Subsequently, it also enhances the softness of the finest and softest calfskin with a shadowed three-dimensional appearance.
“In the world of fine craftsmanship, we have found that by revisiting century-old techniques and ideas, new innovations can come to life,” explains Jérôme Lambert, Montblanc International CEO. “With the Sfumato Collection, our artisans have creatively borrowed a technique pioneered by the great masters to create timeless leather goods that have the distinctive qualities of a work-of-art. Because each piece of leather individually painted with the greatest passion and dedication, they are masterpieces in themselves.”
Featuring colourful light installation by legendary contemporary artist James Turrell, guests embarked on a journey through the world of Montblanc exalted craftsmanship.
Here, they were given firsthand view on the aesthetics of the design as well as the utmost passion poured into the craft by the skilled artisans in creating the Sfumato selection.
Artisans demonstrated the skills and expertise required to craft each piece, starting with the designing phase and up to the assembly of individual piece and leather treatment.
Exclusive to the guests, the Meisterstück Selection Sfumato pieces such as document case, large tote, wallet, coin case, card holders and belts were displayed in three areas with each themed around one of the three new colours of the collection: rich brown, flannel and nay blue.
Following suit was an intimate dinner hosted by Montblanc for the actor and 100 VIP guests. In an atmospheric dining area lit by candles and theatrical spot lighting, guests dined on tables that recall the elegant tones of the hallmarked collection with decorations, linens, chairs and flowers inspired by one of the three colours.
The Meisterstück Selection Sfumato collection will be available at all Montblanc stores worldwide starting June 2015.
