The Bold and the Fashionable ... Úna Burke FW2012 Collection

Cutting edge is the perfect word to describe Úna Burke’s work. 

While Úna Burke may not ring a bell to Malaysian fashionistas, especially among the accessory and costume jewellery lovers, her innovative works have attracted a number of avid following by fashionistas around the globe.  

Even top-notch avant-garde celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Rihanna and the famous skunk-haired heiress and style icon Daphne Guinness have been dressed by her – certainly a money-can’t-buy accolade.
 
So how does Miss Burke describe her works in her own words?  “They are pieces of wearable art which are indefinable as particular garments, preventing them from being placed into the conventional categories of the fashion industry,” says Burke. “They are free to exist just as the objects that they are, interpreted independently by each individual.”
 
Using traditional leatherworking techniques, the evocative wearable objet d’arts are visually captivating, but at the same time, technically challenging as well. 

Furthermore, Burke’s sculptural leather pieces to have garnered lots of attention from the global fashion press, namely Surface, Dazed & Confused, Dolcevita, VMen and Vixen, as well as being exhibited in Fashion, Art and Craft events throughout the UK, Ireland, Singapore, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Hungary, the US, China, Austria, Greece and South Korea .
 
For Fall/Winter 2012, Burke takes Overcome as the title of her collection.
 Each and every piece from this collection projects the strong façade of femininity. 

The mix of earthy and strong colours and the gilded studs that adorn the pieces add a sense of invincibility to the wearer; probably an homage to the female warrior of the past Boudicca, or perhaps the fictional Xena. 

Nevertheless, Úna Burke’s Overcome collection certainly adds pizzazz and a tinge of boldness into your current fall/winter collection.
