Sophisticated Lady on Vacation ... Céline Resort 2011

White and smart tailoring ubiquitously dominates Phoebe Philo’s Resort 2011 ready-to-wear collection for the iconic prêt-a-porter and femme sportswear maison Céline.

Sporting clean shapes and free from frivolous adornments, the collection embodies the spirit of the highly hallmarked French women style as the pieces are meant for les femmes gamines (think Charlotte Gainsbourg and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy) and who are certainly on the move.

The pants, which are quasi-clinging to the wearer’s hips and legs, accentuate the shape of her long legs while providing comfort at the same time. To add a dash of fun, Philo adds a stream of colour blocks in summery hues at the sides of one of the all-white ensembles.

Another classy colour blocking attempt by Philo can also be seen on the two-piece skirt ensemble. The use of yellow, green and red on the outfit, plus the slim belt with golden square buckle and gold cuffs certainly reminds me of Gwen Stefani’s signature style.

Aside from the two notable looks, Philo’s Resort collection is also laden with pieces borrowed the inevitable 1970s styling, such as long jackets cut to perfection paired with flared bottom long pants and bow tie front shirts, as well as belted jumpsuit with slender leg-clinging trousers and diaphanous cape. Seriously, if Jackie Kennedy is here with us today, I’m sure she would have Philo’s number or the nearest Céline store on her mobile speed dial.
