Nicholas Kirkwood at On Pedder at Joyce

Summer was still at full swing but it did not deter Hong Kong’s glamorous fashionistas to strut in their freshly handpicked autumn/winter 2010-11 fashion harvests and gathered at the On Pedder New World Tower store recently.

They did it for two solid reasons – to celebrate the launch of a dedicated space for shoe designer Nicholas Kirkwood and to witness the global debut of Kirkwood’s capsule collection – which we will get to that part later. And do you see the invite image that I posted on the top part of this post? Well, I was invited to attend this event by On Pedder a few weeks ago. Sadly, I was overwhelmed with work and other commitments in Malaysia. Thus, as usual, I have no choice but to turn it down. How sad!

After Dover Street Market in London and Maxfield in Los Angeles, On Pedder is the third multi-brand shoes and accessories retailer in the world to dedicate a permanent space for Nicholas Kirkwood and will last throughout the season. Kirkwood, whose debut collection in 2005 garnered great attention and accolades from Andre Leon-Talley of the US Vogue and Franca Sozzani of Vogue Italia, was also present at the cocktail event.

For fall/winter 2010, Kirkwood continues focusing on his signature curvilinear forms but dazzles his fans with the unusual materials and techniques such as shaved stingray, dégradé python, laser cut mirror leather and cobra. At the same time, Kirkwood also worked with the Mulleavy sisters (Kate and Laura) of Rodarte for the fourth consecutive time on their fall/winter 2010 footwear collection. The collection will consist of bright hued lace-up shoe boots with twisted swaths of leather around the ankles, which marks a perfect blend of style and sophistication.

Besides the fall/winter collection preview, Kirkwood and On Pedder also treated guests to the global debut of his capsule collection, entitled “Keith Haring by Nicholas Kirkwood”. The collection, which will be making its official debut at the London Fashion Week this month, was inspired by the works of late contemporary artist Keith Haring. And for one night only, amidst the delicious servings of canapés and palatable wines, guests were given the golden opportunity to meet and mingle with the man himself!

As for trendsetting celebrity and model Amanda S, and also as part of the project, Kirkwood has also customised a pair of his limited edition shoes for the model herself, who has been an ardent fan of his masterpiece.
